It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Professor Peter Fleming. An academic most recently at The University of Technology Sydney, Peter was a distinguished scholar, valued colleague, and cherished member of the editorial team of Organization Studies.
Peter made exceptional contributions to our journal over many years, serving with dedication in a variety of roles. As a Senior Editor from 2016 to 2024, he brought intellectual rigor, fairness, and thoughtful judgment to the editorial process, helping to
shape the quality and direction of the papers he managed. His commitment to excellence, combined with his generosity toward
authors and fellow editors, earned him the respect and admiration of colleagues across the academic community.
Beyond his editorial leadership, Peter’s work published in Organization Studies was amongst the most impactful and provocative, contributing influential research that enriched scholarly debate in organization
theory and beyond. His papers range from issues of technology, power and AI to capitalism, ghosts and nothingness and are
exemplary for rigour, acumen and thoughtfulness. He also served as a Special Issue Guest Editor, and we are sure his co-editors
and authors will have hugely benefited from his intellectual input, leaving a lasting impact on the journal and its readership.
Before taking the Senior Editor role, Peter also served on our editorial board, providing invaluable, timely feedback. His
reviews reflected not only his deep expertise but also his genuine commitment to helping authors improve their work and fostering
rigorous, impactful research.
He was a trusted colleague, an inspiring scholar, and a dedicated member of our academic community. He was, above all, a wonderful
colleague and a good friend of many in the EGOS community and beyond.
On behalf of the Senior Editors, the Editorial Board and the members of the EGOS community who worked with him, we extend
our deepest condolences to Peter’s family, friends, colleagues, and former students. We mourn his loss and express our sincere
gratitude for his outstanding service and lasting contributions to the journal and to the broader management research community.
His legacy will continue to inspire our work, and he will be greatly missed.
