EGOS Scholarship

The European Group for Organizational Studies (EGOS) strives to make it easier for colleagues and PhD candidates from low-income countries to join our community. Inclusivity is key to facilitate a better understanding of grand challenges from a global perspective and ensures an enriching experience for everybody who is part of EGOS. Yet, we are also fully aware of the very many hurdles faced by those from underprivileged countries. In an attempt to address at least some of those issues, EGOS provides support through the EGOS scholarship.

In 2025, EGOS provides 10 scholarships. We gratefully acknowledge those EGOS members who pay for Sustaining Memberships, covering a part of the scholarship costs.

The EGOS Scholarship includes:

  • EGOS Membership for one year;
  • EGOS Colloquium fees;
  • Scholarship (€ 2,000 at max.) to cover travel, hotel, daily allowance, and (if applicable) visa costs.

Who Can Benefit?

Colleagues, and particularly junior scholars and PhD candidates whose primary affiliation (and salary) is with an institution that cannot provide for Colloquium participation are welcome to apply. This includes, but is not limited to, countries with (very) low incomes (see data from the World Bank and this overview).

Eligibility

In order to be eligible for the EGOS scholarship, your submitted short paper needs to have been accepted and/or your pre-Colloquium activity application (i.e., an application for the pre-colloquium PhD Workshop, or the pre-Colloquium Post-Doctoral & Early Career Scholars Workshop) needs to have been accepted.

The deadline for uploading the EGOS scholarship application is March 30, 2025, 23:59 CET. You will be notified of the decision within two weeks after the end of the deadline.

Decisions are made by the EGOS Board members in charge (currently Christine Moser and Dirk Deichmann), in collaboration with the EGOS Executive Secretariat.
Decisions will be made according to the following criteria:

  • Need for scholarship (candidates from institutions in very low-income countries are prioritized)
  • EGOS history (newcomers are prioritized)
  • Seniority (junior scholars are prioritized)

The spirit of the EGOS scholarship is to facilitate membership and attendance for those who cannot afford them. Please note that as a non-profit association, the financial leeway for EGOS to provide scholarships is extremely limited. We ask you not to game the system: if your institution is wealthy, if you yourself are wealthy, or if you have multiple affiliations, please refrain from applying to the scholarship. Building on this mutual trust, we are delighted to help as many as possible to participate in our community.

* We will consider requests for tickets (e.g., train, plane, bus) for economy class. Please note our Sustainability Principles. We can provide grants for traveling to the Colloquium and back (see above); lodging for the duration of the Colloquium (Monday to Wednesday [in case of pre-Colloquium participation] and/or Wednesday to Saturday; max. €130/night); a lump sum for public transport (€15/day); and a daily allowance (€50/day). The EGOS dinner on Friday is not included in the scholarship and can therefore not be budgeted. For reimbursement, receipts and proofs of payment are necessary. In addition, any booking for reimbursement can be done only after a valid visa has been obtained (if applicable).
